The Gift of Storytelling

The story comes first. The format follows.

Lately, I’ve been diving into the nuances of storytelling. It’s the gift that keeps on giving. It got me thinking — we sometimes focus on the wrapping paper, when we really should put most of our time and attention towards the gift itself.

The founder of Pixel Pioneers says, trendy cool stuff should be used but only to enhance the experience. It should not be the experience.

There is no solid ground if we rely on the trendy cool stuff when every can have trendy cool stuff. Expecting users to explore or use our products for aesthetics is risky because it’s subjective. Using story telling to create an intentional and guided journey makes it different. It cultivates relationship. What kind of relationship is up to you. In the design world, we are responsible for creating more than a flashy cool deliverable. We are creating experiences, flows, and journeys. So, storytelling should always be one of our primary tools.

There is so much to explore on this topic and I want to write more. Maybe some caste studies or side by side comparisons of story telling. Either way, more to come! Thank you for reading.
